I so frequently get asked about the music I play during my Soul Medicine healing sessions I thought it was overdue to give a proper shout out and share to the artists that are on high rotation. I love and appreciate good music so these are artists I have gathered over ten years of facilitating healing work. I know how much magic and power amazing music can add to the healing experience. If you are looking for music to play during reiki treatments, massage, meditation classes, yoga practice, healing workshops, acupuncture, reflexology or just to pop on at the end of a stressful day, check out the list below for aural magic.
Note: I have put active links in the album titles and artists name so when you click on them you can listen online through bandcamp, spotify or purchase directly from the artist. Many of these albums are also available on itunes as well.
Sacred Earth are Prem & Jethro, an Australian duo that make the most incredible ambient music. Soaring vocals, sacred chanting over luscious earthy instrumentals that have been so lovingly produced. They are number 1 in this list as I honestly can’t rave about them enough. I could listen to their music non-stop forever (and I have!!!) it is the PERFECT accompaniment to healing and therapeutic work.
I came across their music years ago while wandering through the Red Hill Market down on the Peninsula here in Melbourne. Prem and Jethro had a market stall selling their CD’s and they had just released Divine Devotion. Prem had the most amazing grounded, soulful energy about her I bought the CD without even listening to it. When I popped it on to listen in the car on the way home I got full all over body tingles & tears welled up in my eyes, it was the most profound experience (and such a sign of amazing music!!)
At the time of writing they have 9 albums and I recommend them all. Usually with a catalogue like that you would anticipate some of the albums wouldn’t be as good as others, but with Sacred Earth ALL their albums are amazing. You can listen to them here for yourself and they are all also up on spotify.
Similar to Sacred Earth is that Aya and Tyler are another chillout/ambient duo, yet unique in their own way. They use a lot of looping and layering within their music, which gives a beautiful sweeping and immersive sound-bath environment. Tranquil, beautiful and incredibly meditative.
3. Jonsi & Alex
Riceboy Sleeps
Riceboy Sleeps is the debut studio album by ambient duo Jonsi & Alex. The album is an artistic collaboration between Sigur Ros vocalist Jon Por Birgisson and partner Alex Somers which features acoustic instrumental music alongside a string quartet, Amiina, and the Kópavogsdætur Choir. It’s 68 minutes of pure heaven.
A stunning instrumental album. Spacious, classically infused album full of piano, strings and analogue synths. It takes you on an emotive and meditative journey. So its wonderful to use when you are wanting to inspire your clients to go deeply within and reflect.
Such a classic. My meditation students will recognise this as I so frequently would use it as the backdrop to my guided meditation’s each week. Designed around “heart-beat” drumming it instantly relaxes as it grounds the listener to their heart space. Soft chanting, flute melodies, earthy beats and clever neuro-acoustic methods integrated in the music to induce deep healing.
I have only recently come across this one after my brother recommended it to me. Has become a quick favourite. Uplifting harmonies, other-worldly soundscapes. Nature sounds and beautiful instrumentals. Its another one to get lost in.
7. Masood Ali Khan
The Yoga Sessions : Hang with Angels
Masood is not only an amazing musician, producer and composer but he is also a healer and meditation teacher. So he knows how to create beautiful music that is also powerfully healing in composition. He brings together a gorgeous combination of his “hang” drum and stunning vocal mantras with guest musicians to create a stunning listening experience.
8. Marjorie De Muynck
There’s no Place Like Ohm Volume 1 and Volume 2.
Marjorie is a phenomenal sound healer and these albums are magic. All songs are tuned to the vibration of “ohm”. Ohm is universally considered sacred and healing, and has been used for thousands of years by cultures throughout the world. The sound vibration of Ohm is restful and has a calming and healing effect as it grounds and centers. A sacred tone it is intrinsically soothing and centering. Resonating with Ohm re-connects us to the earth, which positively affects our biological rhythms and circadian clock. We begin to sync or “entrain” with natural cycles, which enables us to find our balance.
I came across these albums in while going to yoga classes with Rick Harvest at Harvest Yoga. I was always amazed at how quickly I would un-wind and go into a meditative space during class, and these albums support exactly that.
9. Ben Leinbach
The Spirit of Yoga
Another classic. Leinbach created this for yoga practice but it’s divine for healing and meditation. Soothing, calming, peaceful. Beautiful for un-winding and taking people through a relaxing experience.
10. Al Gromer Khan & Amelia Cuni
Moonson Point
This is one magical flowing piece of music that goes for 55 minutes. Amelia chants in her deliciously low toned voice over synths and piano and nature sounds. It feels ancient and sacred, like you are transported back in time to a powerful temple in Morocco or India.
Al Gromer Khan has some other pretty special albums, many of which you can find on spotify. If you like this than also check out Tantra Drums.
11. Ashana with Thomas Barquee
Jewels of Silence
If you like crystal singing bowls then this album is for you. Each song is layered with crystal singing bowl tones and Ashana’s angelic soaring vocals.
12. Biomusique
The 10,000 steps
Another brilliant duo act of singer/songwriter Lisbeth Scott and percussionist & composer Greg Ellis. You will probably recognise her voice as she has been on a number of movie soundtracks. This album is gorgeous. Quite varied from moments of it being very subtle and chill, to more upbeat world music.
13. Hang Massive
As It Is (live)
If you love the sound and tones of the Hang Drum then this album is for you. These guys are amazing and have some other incredible albums, I just find this is the best one suited to healing work. Full instrumental, dreamy, hypnotic, calming. Highly recommend!!
Enjoy!
I would love to hear from you in the comments below of which artists and albums you loved. And feel free to suggest some of your own if you have come across some magic that is amazing to use during healing sessions!
