What is my personal year number?

Have you ever wondered why some psychics will ask for your birthdate when you sit down to have a reading with them? Some will use it as a way to tune into your vibrational field, whereas many use it as a way to calculate specific and very telling numerology and astrology details about you.

One of the most telling methods is to discover what numerology Personal Year you are in. Different from a Life Path Number, (which reveals more about your life purpose & personality characteristics) The Personal Year is helpful in evaluating the trends and energies of the coming calendar year.

In numerology, each year of your life is part of an evolving pattern that can be described as a nine-year cycle, or epicycle. The epicycle starts with a 1 Personal Year, progressing to the 2 Personal Year and then so on until the 9 Personal Year. Once the nine-year cycle finishes you then begin again, and so it continues throughout your lifetime.

Each personal year has a particular energy and characteristic that it’s bringing to your life. Each year offers different opportunities and challenges and different lessons of growth and development. Having a conscious awareness of what part of the cycle you are in can bring a lot of clarity and helps you to work with the laws of nature.

I find it fascinating as a healer and teacher to learn what year my students and clients are in. Often I will attract clients going through their 9-year (endings and completion) and 1-year (new beginnings) as one of my soul gifts is assisting people through transition. It’s very common for students to start meditating or learning reiki during a 7-year (spiritual growth) or need healing support during a 4-year (challenges & taking responsibility). I always giggle when clients meet a soul mate during a 6-year (relationships & love) or get amazing rewards and recognition in their 8-year (abundance & destiny). There is always amazing synchronicity & alignment with their personal year.

Just follow the formula below.

Reduce the day of your birth, month of your birth and year of last birthday to a single digit.

So using my birthday as an example, 12^th June 1981. To discover my current personal year (for this year 2014) My formula would look like this.

12 + 6 (june) + 2014 = 2032
reducing 2032 (2+0+3+2) = 7

Which means that I am currently in a Personal Year 7.

Please note that the cycle kicks in as of your birthday, not the start of the calendar year.

What energies and growth can you expect in each year?  

// Personal Year 1

Vibrations: Beginning of a new era, Planting Seeds & Intentions, New Beginnings, Renewal, Birth, Re-Birth, Strategy, Decisions, Vitality, Motivation, Vision, Build Foundations, Establish a starting point & Independence.

A personal Year 1 is the beginning of a new nine-year cycle for you. It holds the promise of new adventure, opportunities, direction and paths to follow. Where are you being called to change? What desires and longings are calling you? Listen to your heart and start something new.

It is a potent time for clarifying your goals, and setting long-term intentions. Any work you do during this year sets the tone and foundation for the next nine. Plant your seeds for the future. What do you want to create? This is a great time where you will be filled with extra motivation and vitality so make sure you take full advantage of that energy. Take notice and hold of opportunities that come your way. Doors will be opening.

// Personal Year 2

Vibrations: Gestation, Development, Slowly building, Co-operation, Growth, establish connections, Nurturing, Waiting, Patience, Relationships, Harmony, Peace, Balancing, Partnership, Share.

This is a time where the seeds you have planted during your 1-year cycle start to grow. Imagine yourself as a seed, growing in darkness, pushing your way through the soil. You are growing a lot, but you haven’t quite reached the surface. It is a year of PAITENCE. Often a 2-year will be filled with challenges and obstacles and delays, but trust that anything you face is helping you grow and refine. There can be a balancing of energies that occurs during a 2 year, so if you have been extreme in areas of your life often the opposite polarity will appear to bring you back into balance during a 2. Slow down, relax, be calm, there is plenty of time to achieve all that you want.

It is a year for nurturing PARTNERSHIPS. There is a beautiful energy of co-operation and sharing. Often people will meet a romantic partner, business partner or deepen already established partnerships in a 2-year. People will often get engaged and married during a 2 year.

// Personal Year 3

Vibrations: Blossoming, Expansion, Opportunities, Creativity, Joy, Abundance, Power, Encouragement, Social Expansion & Creative Success.

Your seeds that have been growing over the last two years have now reached the surface and are blossoming. A 3-year can be a very social, happy and joyful year. Things are moving, and you want to live life to its fullest. You have a magnetic energy where you will broaden your social circle; romance and love affairs may bloom. Recognition is likely this year and creativity is flowing freely.  Your consciousness will expand as you do. Lots of opportunities and possibilities may be presented to you, so don’t loose your original focus. There can be a tendency to be a little frivolous, so keep an eye on financial spending and don’t make any rush decisions.

// Personal Year 4

Vibrations: Responsibility, Maturity, Maintenance, Work, Self-Control, Honesty, Patience, Authority, Leadership, Loyalty, Finances, Security, Foundation, Health, Defining, Planning and Hard work.

A 4 Year is one of taking responsibility, getting organized and taking control. After the frivolous expansive energy of the 3-year, a 4 year helps bring back some solid foundations and energy of hard work and determination. Responsibilities will often increase and there is a need to tidy up your affairs and get organized. While it can be a frustrating year, its an important year as its energy is preparing you for a hectic 5-year. Get your ducks in order. Sort out your finances and health. Focus on hard work and discipline, or otherwise you may attract situations or people (eg. Bosses or people in authority) that will force you too.

A common metaphor to describe the 4-year is “two steps forward, and two steps back”. It can feel like you are getting nowhere but what you are really doing is digging and hoeing the dirt around your life, creating a firm foundation that can support you and your goals over the next couple of years. The hard work and self-control will pay off, but you probably won’t see it straight away.

// Personal Year 5

Vibrations: Movement, Freedom, Independence, Communication, Travel, Diversity, Random, Expansion, Letting go, Creative Chaos, Expanding Horizons, Adventure & Change.

A 5-year is a year of major change. Horizons are expanded and freedom is desired and encouraged. After the heaviness of the 4-year you will start to feel a lot freer and fluid. It’s a great year for breaking out of old routines and structures and to seek new directions.

The winds of change have arrived. Positive opportunities will present amongst the changes. Often you will meet new friends as you expand and change. You may change careers, your residence, and your family situation. Travel and adventure will often call. Be flexible, and let go of things and people weighing you down. There will be a really fast paced energy to the year. Rapid and hectic, so be aware to not scatter your energy too much!!

// Personal Year 6

Vibrations: Family, Home, Responsibility, Love, Bonding, Soul Mates, Maturity, Wisdom, Healing, Harmony, Generosity, Service, Serenity and Structure.

After the expansive nature of a 5-year, a personal 6-year will call you to make some adjustments in your life and bring back some structure. Its time to get grounded and balanced, so if mind-body-spirit are out of alignment you will have opportunities (or challenges, depending on the way you want to look at them!) to come back into harmony. There is a much slower pace to the year and more focus is to be given on deepening emotional connections with the loved ones in your life. Because you often meet a lot of new people in a 5-year, a 6-year will give you clarity over which of those people will be around for the long term, and which ones were just for the short term. Often responsibilities will call you to offer yourself in service to others, giving them support and love.

A 6-year isn’t a great year for business, as focus is better spent on matters at home and with loved ones. It’s a beautiful year for romance and friendship. People will often meet important soul mates during this period, or make lasting commitments such as marriage.

That said, it could also be a year for breaking commitments or ending relationships as you receive the clarity over who is in true alignment with you. For example, my parents separated and divorced during one of my 6-years.

// Personal Year 7

Vibrations: Contemplation, Introspection, Stillness, Inner Wisdom, Spirituality, Learning, Reflection, Spiritual Advancement, Magic, Confusion, Choice, Clean Out, Possibilities, Higher Learning, Consciousness, Soul, Understanding and Analysis.

A 7-year offers a period of pause and reflection between two very active years in your life. It’s like entering into a cocoon. Take the opportunity to spend lots of time alone so you have space to reflect and contemplate on your life. This often isn’t a year for action, but rather for introspection and waiting. This year favours and encourages self-development and personal growth.

It is a brilliant year for meditation and spiritual development. Often people will be drawn to do a new course, study, learn and write during this period. It’s a wonderful year for doing a big clean out, you can let go of limiting beliefs and behaviours, clear out relationships that no longer serve you or establish new routines and patterns that honour you.

There can be a sense of wanting to escape and be alone during the 7-year. If you are usually quite extroverted I know this can be unsettling, and you may experience moments of loneliness but trust you won’t feel like this forever. Confusion and doubt can strike during a 7-year as you really are questioning and evaluating every aspect of your life and going deep into transforming your psyche. Get professional support if you need it, working with a healer or therapist during a 7-year can be extremely transformative and potent.

// Personal Year 8

Vibrations: Abundance, Infinity, Victory, Reward, Recognition, Attainment, Worth, Value, Energy, Balance, Wealth, Health, Capital Gains, Honor, Pride, Courage, Strength & Power.

A psychic once told me that 8-years are a DESTINY year. An extremely powerful year where whatever touches your life is lasting. If you are meant to be in a job, in a relationship or living your life a certain way, in your destiny year it will happen. Coming out of the very slow and introspective period of the 7-year the 8-year is one of big decisions and MAJOR achievements. A year of abundance.

If you imagine that from the 1-year you started climbing a mountain. The 8-year is the year you reach its peak. All aspects of your life will get a massive boost, especially areas of career and money. Reward, recognition and opportunities for expansion will be offered. Your power and status is at the peak of your 9-year cycle. Enjoy the rewards you have earned them. This is a year for ACTION. Other people will find you more attractive, magnetic, charismatic and alluring. Many people find themselves placed in positions of leadership and authority during an 8-year. Take advantage and enjoy this cycle.

// Personal Year 9

Vibrations: Reflection, Celebrations, Gratitude, Endings, Death/Re-birth, Letting Go, Wisdom, Integrity, Change, Recognition, Grief, Nostalgia, Hope, and Completions.

A 9-year is time of completions and endings. You will find yourself looking back over the last 9 years in reflection and contemplation. What worked, what didn’t? You will re-evaluate your values and goals as many things come to completion in your life. Energetically this is a year of wiping the slate clean, so you can start afresh and clear for your new nine-year cycle.

Embrace the energy of letting go and change. If you are not able to let go of the past willingly often situations will manifest to force you to change. Trust that anything that is ending is meant to. Often there can be moments of grief and restlessness, and the bubbling of new desires and callings may appear.

Take this year to really celebrate and appreciate all you have achieved and experienced over the last 9 years. Look at how much you have grown and the person you have become.

When I first discovered the personal number cycle I had great fun mapping out different moments of not only my life, but of my family and friends. It can be extremely insightful to find out what year your parents; siblings, friends and romantic partners are on. It can bring a lot of clarity and understanding of why things happen the way they do.

Often we can feel like life is chaotic and unfair, but there is a beautiful harmony, rhythm and balance that is always flowing underneath everything. Numerology allows us to become aware of that synchronistic flow, so they we can work WITH nature, rather than against it.
